GEEDITOR / JPG → TIFF

About this conversion · JPG → TIFF

Export JPG pixels as TIFF for software or a processing pipeline that requests this format. Check the output characteristics below before converting a whole batch; a format with a larger bit depth or simpler storage does not add detail to the source.

Output: TIFF · RGBA · 8 bit/channel · compression=1

TIFF output from this tool is uncompressed, 8-bit RGBA. It can be substantially larger than JPG or PNG and is not a high-bit-depth preservation workflow.

Worked example — Calculated example; not a measured file-size result
Input: 2400 × 1600 px
Maximum image width: 1600 px
Output: 1600 × 1067 px

How to convert

  1. Click “Choose files” and select the original JPG file. Start with one file when comparing settings.
  2. Check that the output selector shows TIFF. The instructions here describe this choice; changing the output can change which settings apply.
  3. Open “Conversion settings” below the file area before starting conversion. Set only the options relevant to the output described below.
  4. Leave “Maximum image width” empty to keep the current dimensions. Enter a smaller width, such as 1600, only when you want to reduce a wider image; the height follows its proportions.
  5. Click “Convert files”, then save the result from its file row. “Download all” puts completed files into a ZIP; it does not combine their contents.
  6. Open the downloaded TIFF image at 100% zoom. Compare dimensions, orientation, fine text, transparent edges and colors with the JPG original before uploading it elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

Which settings should I use for this conversion?

Leave “Maximum image width” empty to keep the current dimensions. Enter a smaller width, such as 1600, only when you want to reduce a wider image; the height follows its proportions.

Why is the converted file larger?

TIFF output from this tool is uncompressed, 8-bit RGBA. It can be substantially larger than JPG or PNG and is not a high-bit-depth preservation workflow. Test one image at the original dimensions first. If the result is too large, reduce dimensions to the actual display requirement, then compare quality settings. A different extension alone does not guarantee a smaller file.
