GEEDITOR / MP4 → WAV
About this conversion · MP4 → WAV
Keep the sound from MP4 as a separate WAV file. This extracts the first audio track, not speech as text, and it cannot add sound to a silent video.
The current engine uses this output preset: WAV / PCM_s16le · 48,000 Hz · 2 ch. These values describe the output, not the source recording.
Audio output is mixed to two channels by this engine. Check the channel layout and duration; WAV and AIFF are exported as 16-bit PCM, not as an untouched copy of the source.
An audio export needs an audio track. A silent video, an unsupported audio codec or a protected file can fail. When a recording has several tracks, this tool uses the first one; there is no track picker here.
At this tool’s 48,000 Hz, 16-bit, two-channel PCM preset, one minute needs about 11.52 MB of audio data, plus headers. Duration—not the compressed source size—explains why WAV or AIFF can be much larger.
Worked example — Calculated example; not a measured file-size result
48,000 × 16 ÷ 8 × 2 × 60 = 11,520,000 bytes = 11.52 MB (≈10.99 MiB)
How to convert
- Click “Choose files” and select the original MP4 file. Start with one file when comparing settings.
- Check that the output selector shows WAV. The instructions here describe this choice; changing the output can change which settings apply.
- Click “Convert files”, then save the result from its file row. “Download all” puts completed files into a ZIP; it does not combine their contents.
- Listen to the downloaded WAV at the beginning, middle and end. Compare duration, loudness and channel balance with the MP4 source, and test it in the actual destination player.
