GEEDITOR / TAR → ZIP
About this conversion · TAR → ZIP
Repack a TAR archive as ZIP when the receiving tool needs a different package format. The files inside keep their content; this does not convert the documents, photos or programs stored in the archive.
Archive processing is limited to 1,000 entries, 50 MB per entry and 200 MB after expansion. Encrypted archives, unsafe paths and TAR links or special entries are rejected. A small compressed file can still exceed these limits.
Worked example
Input: TAR → photo.jpg
Output: ZIP → photo.jpg
How to convert
- Click “Choose files” and select the original TAR file. Start with one file when comparing settings.
- Check that the output selector shows ZIP. The instructions here describe this choice; changing the output can change which settings apply.
- Click “Convert files”, then save the result from its file row. “Download all” puts completed files into a ZIP; it does not combine their contents.
- Extract the downloaded ZIP with a compatible archive application. Compare file counts, paths and several file contents with the TAR original. Ownership, permissions or timestamps may change during repacking.
